Why did you losethe Amazon Buy Box?

There are four usual reasons: another seller beat your offer, Amazon suppressed the Buy Box because the price is above its threshold, the Buy Box is rotating between similar offers, or an unauthorized seller undercut you on your own listing. They look the same from the outside. Each one has a different fix.

The Diagnosis

Lost, suppressed, rotating or hijacked:
which one is it?

Start with what the product page shows, then match the fix to the cause. The most expensive mistake is applying the right fix to the wrong problem, like cutting price during a Buy Box suppression, when no competitor holds the Buy Box at all.

ProblemWhat you seeLikely causeWhat fixes itWhat won't
Lost to another sellerAdd to Cart is live, but another seller's name is on it. Your offer sits under other sellers.Their landed price, delivery speed or seller performance beat yours.Compare landed price and delivery promise. Match only if it's above your break-even.Cutting below your floor when delivery speed is their edge.
Buy Box suppressedNo Add to Cart for anyone. Shoppers see "See All Buying Options".The price is above Amazon's competitive threshold for the product.Lower your landed price to Amazon's expected winning price, shown in Pricing Health.Matching a competitor or editing the listing.
RotatingThe Buy Box moves between you and another seller during the day.Similar offers. Amazon shares the Buy Box between them.A small edge in price or delivery tips your share. Track it over days, not hours.Chasing every swap with a price change.
Unauthorized sellerAn unfamiliar seller, often new or low-rated, below your price on your own brand.A hijacker or an unauthorized reseller.Record the seller ID, do a test buy, report through Brand Registry or Report a Violation.A price war with an offer that may not be genuine.
Check It Yourself

How to tell which problem you have.

  1. Open the listing as a shopper. Another seller's name on Add to Cart means you lost it. "See All Buying Options" for everyone means the Buy Box is suppressed.
  2. Check Pricing Health in Seller Central. If Amazon shows an expected winning price below yours, it's a pricing problem, not a listing problem.
  3. Watch who holds it over a day. If it swaps back and forth with the same seller, that's rotation. Our guide on why the Buy Box keeps rotating covers what tips it.
  4. Check your stock and Account Health. An offer that's out of stock can't win, and an account at risk can lose the Buy Box on many listings at once.
Or skip the detective work. A SentryKit Amazon Buy Box alert tells you in real time whether you lost it to a seller or Amazon suppressed it, who took it, and the price that wins it back.

If your whole listing has vanished from search results, that's a different problem: see search suppression.

What Changed in 2026

Buy Box eligibility is going away.
Competition isn't.

Amazon used to screen sellers on performance criteria first, then rank only the offers from eligible sellers. In July 2026 Amazon began removing that seller eligibility gate for the Featured Offer. The rollout started in the EU and UK and completes across all Amazon stores by the end of 2026.

In practice, more offers now compete for the same Buy Box, including from sellers who used to be filtered out. Winning comes down to landed price, delivery speed and performance, and suppression for prices above Amazon's threshold still applies. Read what changed in detail in our post on the Featured Offer eligibility gate removal.

One measurement note: the Featured Offer (Buy Box) percentage in your Business Reports is a share across the date range you pick, so a fresh loss barely moves it. Our explainer on Buy Box percentage covers how to read it. SentryKit shows which listings you hold right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Amazon picks the Featured Offer on landed price (item price plus shipping), delivery speed and seller performance, not on item price alone. A slightly more expensive offer with faster delivery can win. If the Buy Box keeps coming back to you, it is rotating between similar offers. If nobody holds it, it has been suppressed.
The Buy Box is usually suppressed because the price is above Amazon's competitive threshold for that product. Amazon then removes the Add to Cart button for every seller and shoppers see "See All Buying Options". Pricing Health in Seller Central shows the price Amazon expects. This is different from search suppression, where the whole listing disappears from search results.
Lower your landed price to Amazon's expected winning price or below, after checking it against your break-even. The Buy Box returns once Amazon sees a competitive offer. Matching a competitor or editing the listing does not fix a pricing suppression.
Yes. Amazon Retail sells on many listings and competes for the Buy Box like any other seller. In SentryKit you can name Amazon as a seller once, so those losses are labelled clearly and can go to a digest instead of an instant alert.
Amazon used to screen sellers on performance criteria first and only rank offers from eligible sellers. In July 2026 Amazon began removing that eligibility gate, with the rollout completing across all stores by the end of 2026. All offers are now ranked, so winning depends on a competitive landed price, delivery speed and performance rather than on passing a separate eligibility check.
