Competitive Price Alert  ·  Real-time  ·  22 marketplaces

Get an alert when Amazon lowers its competitive price below yours.

Amazon runs an external price check on your offers. It compares your price plus shipping with what other retailers charge, and when it finds a lower price elsewhere, it lowers your competitive price. If you're above it, your offer can lose Featured Offer (Buy Box) eligibility, even though nothing on your listing changed. SentryKit tells you when it happens, by how much, and when you're back within it.

The Alert

Three competitive price alerts, and what each one tells you.

Amazon's competitive price moves both ways, and so can yours. Pick one to see the email it sends.

Amazon lowered it →
Your price is now above Amazon's competitive price. You get the old and new competitive price, your gap in dollars and percent, and who holds the Buy Box.
Amazon raised it →
You're back within. Often the sign that a case worked, or that the cheaper retailer went back up.
You came down to it →
You lowered your price to meet it. The alert confirms you're back within, so you can stop checking.
Every change is also saved to the product's timeline, so you can see how often Amazon moves your competitive price, and export the history.

How It Works

How Amazon's external price check works.

Amazon keeps a competitive price for each product, based on the lowest prices it finds at other major retailers. Other Amazon sellers don't count. Amazon's developer documentation calls it the competitive price threshold. If your total price, your price plus shipping, is above it, your offer can become ineligible for the Featured Offer, also called the Buy Box. The listing stays live, but shoppers may have to click "See All Buying Options" to find your offer.

The number isn't fixed. Amazon can lower it during the day when it finds a cheaper price somewhere else, and raise it again when that price goes back up. Sellers also report that after a case gets it corrected, it can later drop back to the lower number. Checking Pricing Health once in the morning doesn't catch that.

Amazon's competitive price
Amazon's number, from other retailers. Above it, your offer can lose Featured Offer eligibility, but it stays live. This page's alert.
A competitor's price change
Another Amazon seller raised or dropped their price on your listing. See the competitor price change alert.
Potential high pricing error
Amazon deactivates the offer because the price looks wrong. See the search suppression alert and how to fix a potential high pricing error.

Check It Yourself

How to check your competitive price in Seller Central.

1
Open Pricing Health.
In Seller Central, go to Pricing > Pricing Health. Offers that aren't priced competitively with other retailers are listed there with Amazon's competitive price.
2
Compare your total price, not just your price.
Add shipping to your price. That total is what Amazon compares, and it needs to be at or below the competitive price for the offer to be eligible again.
3
Check your margin before you match it.
Work out your fees at the competitive price first. Sellers in the Seller Forums report suggested prices below their FBA fee. Amazon's Automate Pricing has a rule that matches the competitive price for you, but it moves your price down on its own. Sometimes holding your price and winning the Buy Box less often is the better call.
4
If the number looks wrong, open a case, then keep watching.
Seller Support can review the competitive price. If it gets corrected, check it again over the next few days, because it can change back.
Or let SentryKit watch it for you.
The Competitive Price alert tells you when Amazon's competitive price drops below your price plus shipping, by how much, and again when you're back within it. On every plan, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card.

Know when Amazon moves your competitive price, both ways.

Frequently asked about Amazon's competitive price.

Amazon's competitive price is the price Amazon keeps for each product based on the lowest prices it finds at other major retailers, not other Amazon sellers. Amazon's developer documentation calls it the competitive price threshold. If your price plus shipping is above it, your offer can lose Featured Offer (Buy Box) eligibility. You can see it in Seller Central under Pricing > Pricing Health.
Because Amazon found a lower price for the same product at another retailer. The competitive price follows outside prices, so it can drop while nothing on your listing or your offer changes. It can move several times in a day, which is why SentryKit alerts you when it drops below your price, and again when it goes back up.
Price is one of the most common reasons. If your price plus shipping is above Amazon's competitive price, the offer can become ineligible for the Featured Offer even though it stays live and buyable. Other reasons include account performance and fulfilment, which Amazon lists on its Featured Offer eligibility page. Our guide to why the Featured Offer goes missing covers the rest.
Sellers report that a competitive price corrected through Seller Support can later drop back to the lower number. SentryKit sends a Back within alert when Amazon raises it, and a new Above alert if it drops below your price again, so you see the reversal the day it happens. Every change is also saved to the product's timeline, so you can show Seller Support how often it moved.
Amazon compares it with your total price, your item price plus shipping. For an FBA offer with free shipping that's just your price. For FBM offers, the shipping you charge counts. SentryKit shows the total for each of your offers, marked above or within.
Not always. Check your fees and margin at the competitive price first, since sellers report suggested prices that fall below their FBA fee. Amazon's Automate Pricing can match the competitive price for you, but it lowers your price automatically. SentryKit only alerts you, so you decide whether to match it, hold your price, or open a case.
No. Going above the competitive price can cost you Featured Offer eligibility, but the offer stays live. A potential high pricing error deactivates the offer, so nobody can buy it until you fix the price. SentryKit sends a separate search suppression alert for that, and we explain the fix in how to fix a potential high pricing error.
