If your Amazon listing images changed and you didn’t change them, you’re not alone. In mid-October, sellers reported product images changing on listings they hadn’t touched, some to images that look AI-generated, some to the wrong product, and some vanishing from the live listing altogether.
The fix is the same whatever caused it: check the live page for every ASIN that matters, restore the original images, and document the change in a case. Here’s what you might see and what to do about it.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Main image looks different or AI-generated | Platform issue, or Amazon’s auto-corrected image | Re-upload your original and open a case |
| Wrong product in the main image | Catalog contribution from another seller or Amazon | Open a case with screenshots; Brand Registry if you have it |
| Image missing on the live page | Image rejected or not rendering | Check Listing Quality for a suppression |
| Grey or off-white background | Replacement image fails the main image rules | Restore a pure white main image before search suppression hits |
Between October 13 and 15, sellers in several places reported product images changing on listings they hadn’t touched.
Amazon hasn’t said publicly what caused it, and these reports may not all share one cause. What they do share: the image in Edit listing can look correct while Manage Inventory, or the page shoppers see, shows something else. Even if Amazon fixes the underlying problem, there’s no guarantee every listing is restored on its own, and you won’t get an email telling you which ASINs were affected.
Yes. Mid-October was the loudest version of a problem sellers keep posting about.
Amazon editing your images is not new either. We covered how much of your listing Amazon now writes in who actually owns your listing content.
Here’s the counterintuitive part: Seller Central can still show your original while shoppers see something else. Check what buyers see, not your inventory screen.
Doing this by hand works for 10 ASINs. At 200, I’d check the 20 that make most of your sales today and the rest over the weekend.
Or skip the manual check. SentryKit’s Main Image Alert emails you as soon as Amazon changes the main image on any of your ASINs, with the old and new image side by side and a timestamp you can attach to a case. 14-day free trial, no credit card needed.
If another seller’s contribution caused it, treat it like any other unwanted listing change. We wrote about how those happen in your listing can change overnight.
Yes, and that’s the real risk heading into Q4. A replacement main image with a grey background, text or a logo breaks Amazon’s main image rules, and that can get the listing suppressed from search. The basics Amazon’s team lists: a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling 85 to 100% of the frame, at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side, and no text, logos or watermarks (Amazon Seller Forums).
If a person in the image looks AI-generated, check our note on Amazon’s AI image disclosure tag too.
The hard part is knowing which ASINs changed. SentryKit’s Main Image Alert emails you when the main image on any of your ASINs changes, with the old and new image side by side and a timestamp you can attach to a case, and again when it’s restored. The Product Details Change Alert does the same for your title, bullets, description and A+ content, and the Search Suppression Alert tells you when an image problem pulls the listing from search. It tells you which ASIN needs you. Plans start at $19/month with a 14-day free trial. See pricing, or see how it works for private label brands.
Your images are the first thing a shopper judges. Make sure they’re still yours.

Usually one of three things: a platform issue like the one sellers reported in mid-October 2026, a catalog contribution from another seller or Amazon, or an image Amazon replaced after an automatic compliance check. Seller Central won’t always tell you.
Re-upload them through Edit listing or a flat file, then open a case with the ASINs, screenshots and timestamps asking Amazon to remove the incorrect images. Brand Registry owners should report it there too. Updates can take up to 24 hours.
Yes. Any seller on an ASIN can submit catalog contributions, and Amazon can also change images. Brand Registry gives brand owners more control over which images win.

It can. If the replacement has a non-white background, text or a logo, Amazon can suppress the listing from search until a compliant main image is restored.
